An 87-year-old woman from Guelph has died after the SUV she was driving collided with a transport truck on Highway 6 near the intersection of Carlisle Road, police say.

The collision happened just after noon on Wednesday, when the SUV entered Highway 6 from Carlisle Road as the truck was traveling northbound.

The three occupants in the SUV were all seriously injured and taken to hospital, where the 87-year-old driver died. The driver of the transport truck was not injured, OPP said in a news release.

The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours on Wednesday.

Police ask anyone who witnessed the collision to call the Burlington OPP detachment.
