Fight Traffic Tickets Owen Sound

Have you been issued a speeding ticket in the Owen Sound area? If so, you can get assistance fighting your traffic charge and avoiding a conviction.

The licensed paralegals at XPolice are highly skilled and specifically trained to combat traffic tickets. They can help reduce fines, demerit points, and maintain your insurance premiums.

By just paying the fine you received for a traffic violation, you are basically admitting your guilt. Once a ticket has been paid, it is considered a conviction. A traffic conviction can not only result in fines and demerit points, it can have other effects on your life as well.

Repercussions of a Traffic Conviction

Any type of traffic conviction is recorded on your Ontario driver’s abstract. A traffic conviction can be handed out for something as small as a speeding fine, to more serious convictions like careless driving.

Here are some of the possible consequences:

  • Fines
  • Demerit points
  • Loss or suspension of licence
  • Imprisonment
  • Record on your driver’s abstract
  • Increase in insurance
  • Employment issues

Fines

Fines for traffic violations are usually assigned based on their level of severity. For example, low end fines can be as low as around $50 for minor speeding infractions, and can go as high as $10,000 for criminal offences like careless driving or stunt driving.

Demerit Points

Demerit points are assigned when you are convicted of a traffic violation. Accumulating points is not a good thing. You want to try to stay at 0 points if possible.

Any demerit points accrued will stay on your record for at least 2 years from the date they were issued.

If you get 6 demerit points for a single offence, such as careless driving or going 50+ kilometers over the speed limit, it can result in an immediate licence suspension.

If you reach 9 points you will likely be requested for an interview to explain why you should be allowed to keep your licence. Failure to attend this interview may also result in your driver’s licence being suspended.

Loss or Suspension of Licence

As mentioned above, an immediate licence suspension can be handed out for excessive speeding (50+ kms over the limit), careless or stunt driving, as well as DUI.

Your licence may also be suspended for too many demerit points, or too many outstanding tickets.

Imprisonment

Some traffic violations can even result in a jail term. The offences include careless driving, stunt driving, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, and driving with a suspended licence.

Driving Record

Any conviction for a traffic offence can stay on your driving record for 2-3 years.

Increase in Insurance

People don’t often consider the indirect effects of a traffic conviction. Any traffic conviction, no matter how small, will likely result in an increase of your insurance premiums.

The best way to avoid paying more insurance is to fight your tickets to get penalties reduced and possibly escape a conviction.

Employment Issues

Another indirect effect of a traffic conviction is problems with employment. This is especially true if the conviction results in loss or suspension of your licence.

If your job requires you to have a valid driver’s licence, a suspended licence could end up costing you that job.
