Dozens of Charges Laid During Distracted Driving Enforcement Blitz in Windsor

Windsor police say that on Tuesday, March 26th, 2019 the Traffic Enforcement Branch conducted a blitz targeting distracted driving.

The initiative took eleven officers and ran from approximately 11am to 6pm in three different locations within the city.

At the conclusion of the blitz, officers conducted 99 enforcement actions including highway traffic act infractions, compulsory automobile insurance act violations, and written warnings.

Of that, 36 distracted driving tickets were issued specifically for cell phone use.

Police stress that distracted driving legislation specifically states that it is an offence for drivers to talk, text, dial, or email using hand-held communication devices – even if you are stopped at a red light. A driver can only touch a device to call 911 in an emergency.
