Those charges, along with 30 motorists charged with distracted driving through a school zone, were the bulk of the offences officers found being committed during the recent crackdown.
“All of this was in designated school zones,” noted Peel police spokesperson Const. Lilly Fitzpatrick. “And this is only the ones we managed to capture. We can’t be in every (school zone).”
On the plus side, no pedestrian violations were cited, no one was caught disobeying a crossing guard and only three drivers were ticketed for failing to stop for a school bus, she said.
A total of 70 officers were assigned to the blitz. A total of 790 drivers were spoken to by police, 79 pedestrians, and 214 cautions/warnings were issued.
They also issued 132 bylaw infractions (such as parking in a no parking zone) at 104 school zones in Brampton, and another 292 bylaw tickets in 231 Mississauga school zones.
