Niagara Regional Police say they stopped about 500 vehicles at RIDE checkpoints set up around the Niagara Wine Festival activities over the weekend but laid no charges for impaired driving.
There were, however, a handful of drivers who were found to have consumed a little too much alcohol, with four drivers being issued three-day licence suspensions for having a blood alcohol level in the warning range.
In the 500 vehicles stopped in downtown St. Catharines Saturday, 14 drivers were required to provide breath samples. Along with issuing the driving suspensions, police also issued two tickets for alcohol-related offences.
