A phone call to police from staff at a local fast food restaurant has led to the arrest of a 26-year-old North York, Ont. man for charges including impaired driving.

On Jan. 4, 2020 at approximately 2:50 a.m. Peterborough police received a call from staff at a Lansdowne Street West fast food restaurant regarding a possible impaired driver that had gone through the drive-thru.

At approximately 3:06 a.m. officers located the vehicle in the area of Clonsilla Avenue and The Parkway. While speaking with the male driver officers noted a strong odour of alcohol coming from the driver’s breath. A subsequent breath test revealed the driver had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system while operating a motor vehicle.

As a result of the investigation Uditkumar Bhagat, 26, of North York, was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation while impaired driving
  • Operation while impaired — blood alcohol concentration 80 plus

The accused was issued an automatic 90-day driver’s licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 21, 2020.
