The 20-year-old man and 22-year-old woman from Hamilton will be in court Tuesday

A couple from Hamilton are facing charges after allegedly crashing a stolen U-Haul truck and fleeing.

The hit-and-run occurred around 8:30 PM Monday, when a U-Haul reversed and hit a parked car in an alleyway near Robert Street and Victoria Avenue North.

Later, around 10 PM, Hamilton police stopped a U-Haul that matched the description of the suspect vehicle in the area of Wilson Street and Wellington Street.

An investigation revealed that the truck had been reported as stolen.

The driver, a 20-year-old Hamilton man, and passenger, a 22-year-old Hamilton woman, were arrested and searched. The woman was allegedly found with an undisclosed amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.

The man is charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident, and possession of stolen property over $5000.

The woman is charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of stolen property over $5000 and three counts of failing to comply with probation.

The couple are expected to appear in court Tuesday.
