An unnamed 34-year-old man has been charged after allegedly driving high–with a baby on board.

A 34-year-old man from Courtice has been charged after allegedly getting behind the wheel Wednesday evening while impaired—with a baby on board.

Reports of a brown Dodge running a red light at Taunton Rd and Trulls Rd, north of Courtice, came into police around 7:30 p.m., Durham Regional Police said in a release.

The vehicle veered south along Trulls Rd, driving “all over the road” according to police—at one point, nearly running into a roadside ditch.

Durham Regional Police caught up to the driver as he was parking outside of a home on Trulls Rd. Police said a baby under the age of two was found “securely buckled up in the rear seat”.

The driver has since been charged with driving while impaired by drugs.

Police said they won’t be releasing the name of the driver to protect the identity of the child.
