A Bethany driver has been charged after a cyclist was hit by a motor vehicle in Manvers Township on Wednesday (June 21), say police.

Kawartha Lakes OPP were called to Forgotten Lane and Highway 7A about 6:35 p.m. after a 57-year-old male cyclist was struck by the vehicle. He suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle, Ashley Hersey, 27, is charged with fail to leave one metre while passing bicycle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).

As the end of the school year approaches, the OPP are reminding all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety and that of children at all times when cycling and to follow the rules of the road to ensure everyone has a safe and fun summer.
