A 25-year-old Brantford man is facing impaired and dangerous driving charges after crashing into a hydro pole and bringing down overhead wires at Tutela Park on Sunday night.

The crash happened around 8:15 p.m. at Erie Avenue and Cayuga Street. The park was occupied with children and families who witnessed the event and called 911, Brantford police said.

No injuries were reported.

Police said the driver was southbound on Erie Avenue and tried to turn left onto Cayuga Street. The vehicle mounted the curb at Tutela Park, travelled along the sidewalk and struck a hydro pole, which caused overhead wires to fall on the road.

The vehicle then struck a tree stump and continued for another 10 metres on the sidewalk before re-entering the roadway of Cayuga Street, police said.
