Drunk driver runs several red lights in Barrie

Barrie Police officers spotted a speeding vehicle fail to stop for several red lights on Essa Road just after 10 p.m. last Tuesday.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and after hitting the curb, began to billow with smoke due to tire damage.

Police arrested a 22-year-old Barrie man and charged him with impaired driving and having a blood-alcohol level exceeding 80 milligrams.

The man was later released on a promise to appear with a September court date.

The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the man’s licence has been suspended for 90 days.
