Hamilton police are asking the public for help identifying the driver of an SUV that hit a pedestrian and fled early Wednesday evening.

The young woman was walking with a group of friends in the area of Grange Street and Liberty Street — off Ferguson Street South, south of Main Street East — when a black, newer model SUV drove by, police said.

The SUV was hit with an unspecified object, stopped and reversed, sticking the victim, said police.

The SUV then accelerated forward and fled westbound on Grange Street.

The driver of the SUV is described as a 25 to 35-year-old man, with a medium complexion and short trimmed beard. There was a young child in the front passenger seat.

The SUV sustained minor rear end damage.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. James Simpson at 905-546-4861.
