Amherstburg police have confirmed that one person died after a two-vehicle crash shortly before 7:50 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Alma Street and County Road 9.

A 58-year-old Harrow woman is dead after a two-car crash in Amherstburg Thursday morning.

Amherstburg police said that at around 7:50 a.m. a 2014 black Honda civic was eastbound on Alma Street when it entered the intersection with Howard Avenue (County Road 9) and struck a northbound 2013 black Mazda 3.

The driver of the Mazda, a 58-year-old woman from Harrow, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Honda suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was extricated from the vehicle by Amherstburg firefighters and taken to Windsor Regional Hospital.

The intersection was closed until the early afternoon as accident reconstruction officers conducted their investigation. A hydro pole was knocked down as a result of the accident.

Traffic in both directions on Alma has stop signs at Howard. Police say the investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
