Police say a man from Tweed, Ont. has been charged with impaired driving after nearly hitting an OPP cruiser.

A Central Hastings officer was travelling southbound on Victoria Street Sunday afternoon when the officer saw a fast-moving vehicle.

As the vehicle passed the officer, it nearly rear-ended their cruiser. Pulling off Victoria, the officer followed the vehicle to Marlbank Road, where they initiated a traffic stop.

Kieran Whalen, 22, of Tweed, was charged with impaired driving, and for allegedly driving with an open container of liquor.

Whalen’s licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

Whalen is set to appear in a Belleville court in may to answer to the charges.
