East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police says someone called in to complain about a tractor trailer travelling westbound on Highway 17, near the Town of Iron Bridge.

The driver of a tractor trailer in northern Ontario was found to be so drunk, police had to send him to the hospital to make sure he was okay, East Algoma OPP say.

Shortly before 1 p.m. on Wednesday, police said said they stopped the westbound tractor trailer on Highway 17, east of Thessalon, Ont. The officer determined the 47-year-old man had been consuming alcoholic beverages and was arrested.

After he was taken to the OPP’s Blind River detachment, where a breath sample was taken, the driver was found to have four times the legal limit of alcohol in his blood.

The driver was then transported to a local hospital as a precaution, police said. He was later released into police custody.

The driver, who hails from Mississauga, Ont. was charged with:

  • Driving while Ability Impaired – Motor Vehicle
  • Driving with More than 80 milligrams of Alcohol in Blood

He is to appear in a Blind River court on June 9.
