A Kitchener traffic stop turned into something much stranger as police are still on the lookout for the driver.

Police say they were doing traffic enforcement at King Street and Fairway Road on Thursday morning.

Officers stopped the vehicle and were speaking to the driver when he took off and crashed into a pole on River Road.

Police are looking for a person after a single vehicle crash in Kitchener.

The driver then fled from the scene on foot, taking a bag from the vehicle with him.

Several police cruisers and a canine unit responded to the collision.

The bag was found nearby but the driver was nowhere to be seen.

It is unclear what caused the driver to crash, exactly. Forensic investigators were on-scene as well.

The suspect is described as a man roughly five foot six with a thin build.

He is likely to face several charges, including failing to remain at the scene of a crash.

Anyone with information on the missing driver is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
