A male pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle in Mississauga early Wednesday.

The collision happened around 6 AM at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Eglinton Avenue.

Peel police say that the man was struck by a beige Honda Accord at the intersection. Investigators are considering the possibility that he was running to catch a bus when he was hit.

Const. Taryn Hill told CP24 at the scene, “we’re just trying to gather all the information possible from any witness that may have details.”

Several drivers witnessed the incident and police are trying to determine whether the man had a walk signal when he tried to cross the intersection and was struck, Hill says.

The man who died hasn’t yet been identified. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene.

Forensic officers and the Major Collision Bureau are investigating, and are asking for any witnesses to come forward.

The intersection was shut down while police investigated and was expected to be shut down for several hours. Police advised motorists to find alternate routes.
