Emergency services personnel respond to a single-vehicle crash on North Service Road at Kerns Road early Saturday morning.

A Burlington man is in hospital after sustaining serious injuries in a single-vehicle crash just before 4 a.m. Saturday.

The Halton Police Service is investigating the collision that saw a black Volkswagen Golf allegedly fail to stop or negotiate the turn on Kerns Road at the south edge of North Service Road. The vehicle continued through the guard rail, coming to rest in the sunken area between North Service Road and Hwy. 403.

The 22-year-old Burlington driver was transported to Hamilton General Hospital, where his condition is described as critical. His male passenger suffered minor injuries.

Due to the serious nature of the crash, the Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) has taken carriage of the investigation. Police say speed and alcohol may be factors.

Witnesses should call the CRU at (905) 825-4747 ext. 5065.
