The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for witnesses in a hit-and-run crash that occurred in Mississauga on Friday, May 3, at 4:50 PM.

The incident was captured on dashcam and the OPP have released the footage, hoping someone can identify the vehicle—or that the driver will turn himself in.

The crash happened on Highway 410 northbound, approaching Derry Road. In the released video, a vehicle driven by Chris Maxwell is in the high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane when another vehicle comes up close behind it.

The driver of the vehicle swerved to the right of Maxwell, passed him and pulled directly in front. Then, slamming on the brakes, the driver swerved into Maxwell’s car, resulting in it spinning 180 degrees and crashing into the barrier. The other car keeps going after that, fleeing the scene.

Police have been unable to identify the vehicle, other than to say that it is a compact black hatchback and will likely have damage on the rear driver’s side from where it hit Maxwell’s car.

Maxwell said he and his passengers were unhurt, but his car is a write-off. Anyone with more information on the crash, the vehicle or the driver involved is asked to call the OPP Port Credit detachment at 905-278-6131.
