A 22-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with careless driving after a multi-vehicle crash on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Mississauga.

Ontario provincial police say a vehicle was heading west on the QEW, near Hurontario Street, around 3 p.m. on Tuesday when the driver crashed into highway debris and was then struck from behind by another vehicle.

The driver of a third vehicle swerved into the path of a tractor-trailer, which caused the transport truck to lose control and jackknife across the highway.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

All westbound lanes of the QEW were closed from Hurontario to Dixie Road for two-and-a-half hours after the crash.
