A truck that overturned on the Trans-Canada Highway during rush hour Monday morning temporarily closed both eastbound lanes of the highway.

The vehicle overturned after it collided with a car in the eastbound lane near Soldier’s Pond, near Holyrood, before 7:30 a.m.

Holyrood RCMP later shut down the TCH at 10 a.m. to facilitate the truck’s removal, for what was expected to be a 20-minute exercise.

Two people travelling in the truck were taken to hospital with injuries, one of them with broken bones.

There were no reports of injuries to people who had been in the car.

The collision backed up traffic heading into St. John’s significantly, resulting in long delays for commuters.
