A man from Peterborough faces impaired driving charges after allegedly driving the wrong way on a downtown street early Sunday morning, police say.

According to Peterborough Police Service, around 6:30 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle travelling east on Brock Street, and then making a left turn onto George Street North, which is one-way in the opposite direction. After a time the officer stopped the vehicle.

Allegedly, the driver then failed a breath test, which revealed he had more than twice the legal limit of alcohol in his system.

Jade William Rowe, 21, was arrested and charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle — blood-alcohol concentration over 80, and driving with no licence.

He was released from custody and is scheduled for a court appearance May 2.
