outstretched arms in handcuffsNiagara Regional Police have arrested one of their own after an assault in Welland on Tuesday.

Police responded to a home in Welland at about 2:30 p.m. where an off duty police officer was arrested at the scene following an investigation.

Const. Wayne Brown, 42, was charged with break and enter and assault. He’s a 15 year veteran of the NRP, currently working from the Welland detachment.

Brown has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the ongoing criminal investigation.

Police say they are not releasing any additional details about the arrest at this time, because it is now before the courts and the investigation is ongoing.
