The OPP is asking motorists to call 911 when they spot wrong-way drivers after a rash of incidents that have led to five crashes and killed two people in the last month. From Oct. 5 to Nov. 5, the force responded to 25 cases of vehicles travelling towards oncoming traffic.
There have been 207 such cases this year so far compared to 182 in all of 2017. A dozen charges have been laid in the recent incidents, including two impaired driving charges.
Motorists who spot a wrong-way driver should immediately, but safely, pull over to the side of the road and call 911 with a location, a description of the vehicle and, if possible, a licence plate. “The OPP is reminding drivers to pay full attention to the road and observe all directional signage, especially when driving on busy, multi-lane highways,” the force said.
