Golfers on foot and in golf carts scrambled for safety as a drunk driver drove his car onto a Milton golf course on Monday, according to Halton police.

The incident occurred at Greystone Golf Club on Dublin Line, which is not far from Chudleigh’s apple farm.

A car thought to be involved in an earlier hit-and-run in Acton was later smashing into parked cars and driving on the golf cart paths at the golf course, said police, forcing golfers “to scurry out of the way.” The vehicle then left the golf course and was stopped by a Halton traffic officer nearby in heavy rush hour traffic.

The driver was arrested and transported to a police station for testing. Police say he blew more than twice the legal limit.

There were no injuries and no damage to the golf course itself, but the incident is still under investigation and the exact number of parked vehicles hit and the dollar value of damage is yet to be determined.

Ryan Linkletter, 26, of Pickering, is charged with impaired driving, excess blood alcohol and dangerous driving. He was released from custody and will be back in Milton court on June 17.
