A jackknifed tractor-trailer blocked the eastbound express lanes on Highway 401 near Leslie Street Monday morning.

The crash happened at around 8:30 a.m. Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Kerry Schmidt posted a report of the incident on Twitter, saying lanes were closed because of a three-vehicle collision.

Only one lane was left open after the collision, which involved three large trucks, blocked at least three lanes on the highway.

Sgt. Schmidt posted an update around 10:20 a.m. on Twitter to say cleanup had started. Around noon he posted on Twitter again to say express lanes “are expected to remain closed until after 1 p.m.”

All eastbound express lanes were reopened around 1:35 p.m., according to Ontario Provincial Police.

The closure snarled traffic for hours, as motorists were forced out of the express lanes at Bayview Avenue.
