Rock blasting, hammering to reduce lanes until Thursday
The City of North Bay is warning drivers of lengthy traffic delays through the Highway 11/17 and Seymour Street intersection as rock blasting and hammering takes place this week.
A statement from the city says the contractor for the intersection reconstruction project is completing the work as part of a storm sewer installation.
“As a result of this necessary operation, lengthy delays to traffic travelling through the intersection may be experienced due to reduced travelling lanes,” the statement reads.
Blasting and hammering will take place between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to minimize disruption to traffic.
The intersection will operate normally outside of those hours. The reduced lanes will be in place until Thursday.
The city advises travellers to add extra time to their schedule when using the intersection or to take an alternate route. Options include:
- vehicles travelling northbound on King’s Highway No. 17, detour onto Highway 94 towards Callander and then north to Lakeshore Road and then using the city’s road network, get to their destination
- vehicles travelling northbound on King’s Highway No. 11 should take the off ramp at Lakeshore Road and then using the city’s road network, get to their destination
- vehicles travelling southbound should take any of the arterial roads connected to Highway 11/17 and using the city’s road network make their way to either King’s Highway No. 11 or King’s Highway No. 17
The city states further that it, the Ministry of Transportation of Ontario and the contractor are aware of and appreciate the need to maintain traffic through the Highway 11/17 and Seymour Street corridors, but the necessary work must be completed responsibly and safely.
