At least five members of the high-profile ACTION unit under investigation for alleged ticket faking have been arrested.

Hamilton police sources not authorized to speak on the record confirm the officers, who have been on administrative duties for months amid the more than eight-month investigation, have been arrested.

It’s not clear what charges they may be facing.

“What we can confirm at this time is that the results of the ongoing internal investigation will be released to the media and public when the investigation has been completed,” said Hamilton police spokesperson Catherine Martin.

Gary Clewley, a lawyer representing the officers, declined to comment until he can “figure out what’s going on.”

The officers were all part of ACTION Team One last year, when on Sept. 30, 2014 another officer found evidence tickets were being written and logged without the offender being notified.

The allegedly falsified ticket books were found in a box destined for the shredder.

It’s alleged the fake tickets were largely targeting known vulnerable people downtown who have no idea there may be a number of tickets against them.
