Westbound 401 lanes in Quinte West reopen after being blocked by transport, vehicle crash

A collision involving a tractor trailer and a passenger vehicle diverted traffic off the westbound 401 in Quinte West for part of Sunday.

Quinte West OPP reported that the crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. just west of Aikins Road, which led to a blockage of the westbound lanes from Wallbridge-Loyalist Road to Glen Miller Road.

Emergency detour routes were set up at the Wallbridge-Loyalist Road turnoff to direct traffic.

Firefighters responded to the report of a fuel leak from the tractor trailer, which they were able to stop before a tow arrived.

There weren’t believed to be any serious injuries, but Quinte West Fire Chief John Whelan told InQuinte one of the vehicle occupants was taken to Trenton Memorial Hospital.

The OPP East Region Communications Centre reported the westbound 401 reopened at Wallbridge-Loyalist Road at about 3:00 p.m.
