OPP say the accident involving four cars occurred around 8 p.m. Sunday night in the Toronto-bound lanes of the QEW at Ford Drive.
Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says three cars struck some debris that was lying on the highway. When they pulled over examine the damage, a fourth vehicle struck the same debris and then veered into the pedestrians who had gotten out of their cars.
A woman was pronounced dead at the scene while another male was taken to hospital in critical condition. Two other males suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The Toronto-bound lanes at Ford Drive re-opened around 4 a.m. on Monday.
