The DRPS has launched an investigation after a motorist drove a vehicle into the Courtice Community Complex building and into a swimming pool.
Officers were called to the community centre on Courtice Road this morning at about 8:40 a.m. after reports a vehicle had driven into the building and ended up in the children’s pool.
“Officers arrived and located a small red vehicle in the children’s pool. Officers and EMS assisted in removing the 36-year-old female from the vehicle; she was the lone occupant and wasn’t hurt. No one else was in the pool at the time,” reads a media release.
Police believe the incident was prompted by a mental health issue.
The building sustained extensive damage and will be closed until further notice.
“All classes and programming in the building are cancelled, including recreational swimming, swimming lessons, 55+ Active Adults programming, and group fitness classes. The fitness training centre and Clarington Public Library Courtice Branch are also closed,” reads a notice from the Municipality of Clarington.
