Gravel truck accident scene
A motorist suffered minor injuries following a collision with a gravel truck on Highway 12 Friday (Sept. 6) afternoon.

According to Brock Township Fire Chief Rick Harrison, the accident occurred at Concession 1 Brock around 1 p.m. and was nearly a head-on collision.

“It looks as though the vehicle may have crossed the centre line a little bit and basically got side-swiped by the gravel truck,” he said in an interview around 2:45 p.m.

“She’s very lucky.”

The driver and lone occupant of the vehicle had to be extricated by responding firefighters.

“Once we got her out, she stood up and walked over to the stretcher,” Chief Harrison said.

Following the collision, the gravel truck ended up in the ditch with a ruptured fuel tank.

“We believe that between 300 and 400 litres of diesel leaked,” Chief Harrison noted.

The highway is closed between Concession 2 Brock and Regional Road 6 (Saintfield Road).

“It shouldn’t be long before it’s reopened,” Chief Harrison added.
