A veteran York Regional police officer has been placed on the sex offender registry after being sentenced Wednesday to 16 months behind bars for sexually assaulting a person during a traffic stop in Richmond Hill.

Const. Young Min Von Seefried, 34, was charged with one count of sexual assault on June 8, 2015. The complaint sparked a Special Investigations Unit probe and Seefried was convicted in November 2016.

Upon Wednesday’s sentencing, Seefried, who has been a York officer since May 2006, was suspended without pay.

“It is extremely disappointing to have one of our officers charged and convicted criminally. However, it is by no means a reflection on the hard-working men and women of York Regional Police, who are professional, dedicated and do their jobs every day with integrity and respect,” said Chief Eric Jolliffe.

Seefried will be placed on the sex offender registry for 10 years. He is also barred for possessing weapons for five years and will be on probation for 24 months upon completion of his prison term.

“The investigation by the Professional Standards Bureau is ongoing and, to ensure there are no further victims, photos of Von Seefried are being released,” York police said in a release. ” Anyone who had an interaction with this officer that may have been inappropriate is asked to contact investigators.”
